Mine Yapping

Configuration

The mine-yapping.json config file, the push-to-talk keybind, and pointing the mod at a different backend.

The config file

The mod keeps its settings in mine-yapping.json inside your Minecraft config folder. It is created with defaults the first time the game starts with the mod installed.

%APPDATA%\.minecraft\config\mine-yapping.json
mine-yapping.json
{
  "apiKey": "",
  "serverUrl": "https://mine-yapper.com/api/converse",
  "speechChance": 0.5
}

Edit it with Minecraft closed — the file is read at startup and rewritten by /login, so changes made while the game is running are overwritten.

apiKey

Your Minecraft API key from Dashboard → Account. Normally you never edit this by hand: running /login <token> in game writes it for you. Treat the file as a secret.

serverUrl

The conversation endpoint. Defaults to the hosted service:

https://mine-yapper.com/api/converse

Point it at your own backend if you self-host:

{ "serverUrl": "http://localhost:31415/api/converse" }

The mod derives the WebSocket URL (…/api/converse/stream) and the health/language URLs from this value, so only this one entry needs changing.

speechChance

How likely a nearby mob is to start a conversation on its own. The mod checks every 30 seconds and rolls against this number.

ValueEffect
0Ambient chatter off — mobs only respond to you
0.5Default — roughly one spontaneous conversation every minute when mobs are around
1A nearby mob speaks on every 30-second check

Values are clamped to 0–1. Anything malformed falls back to 0.5.

Ambient chatter uses your monthly allowance. At 0.5 a long session can burn through 100 requests without you saying a word — set it lower if you are rationing.

Keybind

Push-to-talk is V by default. Rebind it in Options → Controls → Key Binds → MineYapping → Push to Talk, like any vanilla keybind. There is nothing to change in the config file.

Language

The mod's chat messages and the mob replies follow your dashboard language setting, not Minecraft's. Finnish is the default; switch to English on the website. The mod re-checks at most every 5 minutes, so no restart is needed.

Audio devices

There is no device picker. The mod uses your operating system's default input and output devices, at 24 kHz. Change the default in your OS sound settings and restart Minecraft.
